TI’s $60 Billion Expansion: Ushering in a New Era of U.S. Semiconductor Manufacturing

On June 18, 2025, Texas Instruments (TI) announced a groundbreaking investment of over $60 billion to expand its semiconductor wafer fabrication across seven sites in the United States. This move, aligned with U.S. industrial policy and rooted in TI’s century-long legacy, aims to meet growing semiconductor demand and support innovation in key sectors like automotive, smartphones, and data centers.

Leading the U.S. Manufacturing Resurgence

TI’s investment reflects the accelerating trend of reshoring semiconductor manufacturing and strengthening domestic supply chain resilience. Backed by U.S. government initiatives such as the CHIPS Act, TI is building out high-capacity, geographically distributed fabs in Texas (Sherman and Richardson) and Utah (Lehi)—expected to create over 60,000 jobs.

300mm Production as Core Strategy

TI is focusing on 300mm (12-inch) wafer production, particularly in 45nm to 130nm nodes—optimal for analog and embedded chips where cost-efficiency, scale, and reliability are key. These process nodes are essential to applications where cutting-edge functionality depends on robust support components.

Analog and Embedded ICs in the AI Era

With AI, electric vehicles, and IoT technologies reshaping the global landscape, demand for power management, signal processing, and embedded control is surging. TI’s products play a mission-critical role in platforms used by Apple, Ford, NVIDIA, SpaceX, and others—cementing its strategic role in next-gen systems.

Strengthening Global Supply Chain Control

Beyond wafer fabs, TI operates a global network of assembly and test sites in Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Mexico, and is transitioning to an internally controlled model, with plans to bring over 95% of manufacturing and testing in-house by 2030. This strategy enhances supply chain agility and mitigates geopolitical and logistical risks.

Conclusion: A Strategic Turning Point

TI’s $60 billion investment marks a pivotal moment in the global semiconductor landscape—accelerating America’s manufacturing resurgence while responding to global electronics demand with robust, scalable production capabilities.
As the industry evolves, companies across the electronics ecosystem must adapt to ensure supply continuity and access to high-quality components.
